Puerto Rico Bioluminescent Bay Tours
One of the most unique and memorable tours you can take in Puerto Rico is to visit the bioluminescent bay off of the coast of La Parguera. La Parguera is a small fishing village on the Southwest corner of Puerto Rico and is part of the town of Lajas. The luminescent effect in the bay is the result of a permanent population of tiny micro-organisms called Dinoflagellates. These animals produce a chemical spark of light when disturbed in the water. They can produce striking effects of green and white sparkles that can only be seen at night….and no, don’t worry – it’s not radioactive!

Hey can you still swim in the bio bay? We are coming in February and would love to swim in the bay on your trip if possible. Thanks
Hi Rickie! Yes, you can still swim in the bio bay in La Parguera. That’s one of the best parts of this tour. Justin is emailing you details now and can make the booking for you whenever you are ready. Let us know if you have any more questions. thanks!
If we take the later bio bay tour can we snorkel and visually see the “lite-up organisms”? Can we rent gear from the provider of the tour (mask, fins, snorkel, and what does it costs per person?
Hi Jim, Yes, you can see the lite up organisms (dinoflagellates) on all of the biobay tours. The tour includes all rental gear – snorkel, mask, fins and wet suit if you want it (although the water is really warm). There is an option for 4 hours $60 or 2 hours $30. Please give us a call if you would like to book. Thanks!
